Nürburgring , in Germany
Re-launched in 1996 after 12 years of inactivity, first won in 1984 by Alain Prost in a
one-off race. In 1997 the tournament was held in Jerez, Spain.
From the 1920's to 1976 the Nürburgring was home of the dangerous German Grand Prix
'Grosser Preis von Deutschland' which finally came to an end in 1976 when Niki Lauda
almost lost his life in a accident.
The circuit subsequently lost its place to Hockenheim as the official German Grand Prix
and, after extensive re-designs, has since been named the Grand Prix of either Europe or
Luxembourg.
